decreases along with a decrease in the body temperature. This state is followed by the third and fourth stages, called “deep sleep,” in which the body enters a deep sleeping state and the brain waves begin to slow down. The fifth stage is called REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, characterized by eye movement, increased respiration rate, and increased brain activity.2 This last stage is considered the dream level, when most people dream.
