Each time a sinner is converted, the Holy Spirit has pierced the mental and spiritual veils and spoken directly to the conscience of that individual, leading the person to Christ. 2. He speaks to the inner spirit of a person. The Bible says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Rom. 8:14). Paul wrote about the “inward man” (Rom. 7:22; 2 Cor. 4:16), and Peter mentions the “hidden person of the heart” (1 Pet. 3:4), which alludes to the conscience and soul of each human. The human spirit is the seat of spiritual influence in the same manner that the physical heart is the center of the human body. This inward part is often identified with the phrase “the heart.” This brings confusion, for the physical heart pumps blood throughout the body; thus, how can the heart discern or have thoughts? The Hebrew Scriptures use three Hebrew words to describe the activity of the heart. The Hebrew word chedher is translated “reins” and refers to the deepest seat of the breast, bowels, or the deepest seat of emotions. The King James Bible uses the word reins (Prov. 23:16). The Hebrew words tuchoth and qereba mean the middle or the midst of the heart.1 The ancient cultures saw the heart as the center of all emotions and thought. In realty, the human spirit is the seat of all emotions and a filter for all thoughts. When the Holy Spirit begins to speak to a believer within the spirit, the believer will experience strong feelings, which some call intuition , that bring a sense of
