apocalyptic vision, the seer was on the island of Patmos but was caught up “in the Spirit” to the heavenly temple (Rev. 1:10). The entire Book of Revelation is a vision of things to come. Seeing a departed loved one appear to you on Earth may not necessarily indicate that person has actually left the paradise of the righteous souls in heaven and returned to Earth. God can permit a soul that is now in heaven to appear in a vision in the same manner Christ appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus. The question is this: Why would the Lord allow a person to see someone in a dream or a vision who has gone home to be with Him? I believe there are four possible reasons. 1. At times to bring you comfort There are times when a person departs and the family members are uncertain of the spiritual condition of the departed. Perhaps they were raised in a church, confessed Christ at one point, but had not been as active for the kingdom as they should. On several occasions in the Bible the Lord allowed people who had died to appear and tell their family members that they were all right and not to worry about them. This does not mean that in every case we can ask for some type of confirmation and experience a dream or a vision of a person. For this to occur it must be the sovereign purpose of God, which is something none of us can manipulate or control. 2. To bring back positive memories When a wonderful person who brought you joy is taken from you, it leaves you with only memories. These memories
