CHAPTER 6 CAN SATAN OR DEMONS POSSESS A CHRISTIAN?
A S A TEENAGE evangelist in the late 1970s, I was invited to preach at a church in a northern state. After meeting the pastor, I was instructed by him not to preach any message teaching that a Christian could not be possessed by an evil spirit. That night I discovered why. After the altar service he stood up and instructed the ushers to hand out the brown paper bags. He then instructed anyone who “had a demon” to breathe hard and fast into the bag. Soon a few people passed out, and the pastor began rebuking demons. By this time I was looking for an exit and was about to make one through the drywall. About this time I was asked if I would like to go to the pastor’s office and wait. Needless to say, I never returned to the “brown bag ministry” church where people hyperventilated in the name of deliverance.
