9:16). Certainly this refers to the temple of God in heaven on the sacred holy mountain of the Lord. This angelic being “walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones,” a special place somewhere in the heavenly temple (Ezek. 28:14). He was created perfect until iniquity was found in him, and he was cast out of the holy mountain (in heaven, v. 16). He corrupted his wisdom and became proud of his own brightness (v. 17), or his beauty. Ezekiel calls him a cherub. T HE F OUR F ACES OF THE C HERUB Herein is a mystery that is quite interesting. This anointed cherub is considered by many scholars to be Satan, or the bright “star” (Lucifer). When further researching the various places where a cherub is mentioned in Scriptures, we read of four “living creatures” encircling God’s heavenly throne with the face of an ox, an eagle, a lion, and a man (Rev. 4:7). These unusual-appearing angels are called “beasts” (v. 6, KJV ), which is translated as “living creatures.” These angels are assigned to worship continually saying, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty” (v. 8). Ezekiel also observed these same forms of angels in his vision and gave a similar description of them to what is also recorded by John in Revelation 4:7. Ezekiel saw cherubim in chapters 1, 10, and 28; he also saw them in Ezekiel 41:18, where they are carved on the walls of the future temple in Jerusalem. Fifteen times in Ezekiel 10 ( KJV ) Ezekiel used the word cherubims describing the angels he saw in a vision . The
