Satan has been effective in making some Christians deny the power of God. Paul warned that in the last days many would be “having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2 Tim. 3:5). The Greek word power is the same word Christ used when He revealed that believers would receive power from the Holy Spirit. Over my many years of traveling I have heard some Christians deny that any of the nine gifts of the Spirit are active today, deny that a believer has authority over demonic powers, and deny the healing covenant of God through Christ to heal the sick today. If I were Satan, I would do all in my power to insure that as many Christians as possible denied the power and anointing of the Spirit. I would teach the congregation that it was a thing in the past and not a blessing in the present. Those believing this theory would have a “form of religion” but “deny the power.” Paul wrote that you should “turn away” from rejecters of God’s power! I W OULD D ENY THE I MPORTANCE OF B EING U NDER S PIRITUAL L EADERSHIP Satan’s desire was to be “like the Most High” (Isa. 14:14) and to exalt his own throne (position) above all angels and above God Himself (v. 13). He desired to be in sole control of all the creation and felt he could do a better job than God was doing. Even when the tempter came into the Garden of Eden and tempted Eve, he told her if she ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, she would be like the gods (Gen. 3:5).
