10). Following Michael’s heavenly war, we read that Satan “has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time” (v. 12). It is far better for stronger spirits to remain in the atmospheric heaven instead of being cast down to the earth. When this future expulsion does occur, all hell breaks loose on the entire globe. In reality, God can hear you pray anywhere and at anytime, and the enemy can hear your verbal rebuke anywhere and at anytime. Some will remind us that we are to “cast down the stronghold of the enemy,” which is true. However, that verse is dealing with mental strongholds and personal imaginations that battle against the knowledge of God. (See 2 Corinthians 10:3–5.) For those who believe in the prayer language of the Holy Spirit, there was a charismatic fad that swept through North America years ago in which some were told to pray in a “war tongue” and scream out in other tongues to the enemy. Again, this may seem very spiritual, but examine the Scripture related to speaking in other tongues. There are various reasons for speaking with tongues or, as some call it, the prayer language of the Spirit. Paul makes it clear that “he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God,” and the individual doing the speaking “speaketh mysteries” (1 Cor. 14:2, KJV ). Paul also said that “no man understandeth him” (the one speaking in tongues). The same ministers who instruct believers to yell in tongues in a “war tongue” at the enemy will often teach that one of the important reasons for praying in tongues is that Satan and his kingdom cannot understand the language being spoken.
