marriage is stronger than ever. I have had several friends in the past who engaged in adultery. In several cases the husband confessed his sin and asked for forgiveness. In some instances, after the confession, the wife felt the husband had “fallen in love” with the other woman, and this became the most difficult perception to deal with during the counseling session. At times this does occur, but after asking many men in private what actually happened and discussing their true feelings, several have said, “My wife thinks I am lying, but I never lost the love for my wife and actually felt heavily convicted of the Lord when I was sinning. I never wanted to hurt her, yet I was driven by an uncontrollable force.” That force, many times, is a combination of three things: the release of feel-good chemicals, the power of a seducing spirit (1 Tim. 4:1, KJV ), and the thrill of the chase , meaning the same thrill Eve experienced with the idea of eating from a forbidden tree—something the Bible calls temptation . T HE T HRILL T HAT C AN K ILL Adam and Eve discovered the thrill that can kill . The temptation to be as God and know good from evil was an overwhelming concept to Eve (Gen. 3:5). However, Adam was seduced by his beautiful wife into tasting what was forbidden, and eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil brought death to the first couple (v. 19). By nature men are thrill seekers. Some thrills come through sports, roller coasters, bungee jumping, and even sky diving. These activities produce
