certainly hide the fact that God’s presence can and should be felt not only from the sinner but also from these churchy types who give God a weak two-hour visit during seven days of their week. I have known of individuals who were alcoholics and went to an altar to confess their sins, yet for years they remained alcoholics even though they were also an active member of a church. Their attendance was based upon a feeling of relief they acquired by removing the guilt of six days of sin by honoring God one day out of the seven. In such cases there is not a release of God’s presence, rather just a rigid religious performance of classical type singing accompanied by a brief sermonette. A boring, emotionless church service full of no-feeling religious rituals will never replace the feeling of the false high obtained from alcohol. The same is true of those bound by other addictions. How can a redeemed addict who is accustomed to tingling nerves from the feeling of drugs in the bloodstream sit for years in a powerless form of so-called Christianity and not expect to be drawn back into the desires of the flesh? I know what some are thinking at this point, as I have heard the same repeated thought over the years—“We do not serve God by feelings, but we follow Christ by faith.” Certainly this is true, as we “walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7). However, neither should we avoid expressing our faith by using our God given emotions. We cry at funerals, smile and hug our children,
