The writer of Hebrews wrote concerning the hall of the heroes of the faith and mentioned Moses. He said, “By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin” (Heb. 11:24–25). The adversary has such success in retaining his control on the unsaved because of the pleasure of sin . The word pleasure commonly used in the New Testament can refer to a person living in extreme luxury for personal pleasure (James 5:5) or to using the flesh to gratify desires (Rom. 1:32, KJV ). Christ warned that the “pleasures of life” would choke out the growth of God’s Word in a person’s life (Luke 8:14). Paul also warned that in the last days men would be “lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” (2 Tim. 3:4). Paul wrote to Titus and told him that some believers in the past were “serving various lusts and pleasures” (Titus 3:3). In one of Paul’s strongest discourses against sins of the flesh, he informed believers that not only do unrepentant sinners know that God will judge them for sin, but they take pleasure in their sins (Rom. 1:32, KJV ). James spoke of rich men who used their wealth to live “in pleasure and luxury” while ignoring the needs of the poor (James 5:1–5). Herein is an important fact to understand concerning sin. If the act of sinning had no pleasurable feelings connected with it, then the adversary would go out of business within a few weeks. The drug dealers would be penniless, and the
