CHAPTER 11 WHAT IS THE GREATEST WEAPON SATAN USES AGAINST A SINNER?
I F WE SUBMITTED to a survey among Christians as to what they believed was the greatest weapon the adversary used against a sinner, we would receive numerous possible answers, often based upon what they perceive to be the main obstruction preventing their own unconverted family members from receiving Christ’s redemptive covenant. Some would specify a particular sin or habit, or perhaps an addiction to drugs or alcohol. One word describes the spiritual condition of a sinner — sin . However, sin is more than the root word for the word sinner . Sin is described as any action contrary to man’s and God’s laws. Men call this a transgression of the law , while God identified disobedience to His commandments as a sin . When Cain slew his brother Abel, becoming the world’s first murderer, God Himself used the word sin to describe Cain’s action (Gen. 4:7). The Hebrew word for sin means, “a transgression with a penalty associated with it . ” It is easy to say that the adversary’s greatest weapon is sin. However, there is one aspect of sin that is actually his greatest tool.
