What weapon would cause a good member to quit church and never return? What weapon is the greatest block to your worship, prayer life, and walk with God? The answer is one word that many believers have never explored but have experienced—the weapon of condemnation. A P OWERFUL W EAPON Early in the ministry I discovered the difference between conviction and condemnation . The Holy Spirit “reproves” the world of sin (John 16:8, KJV ). This word reproves is a word for convict or convince a person; it even carries the idea of rebuking a person for his or her error. When a person is convicted in a court of law, that person is declared guilty of the crime. We can only be delivered from our sins when we first acknowledge we are guilty we are a sinner. But the amazing aspect of God’s heavenly court is that if you say you are innocent when you are guilty, you lie—but if you will admit you are guilty and confess your sin, you will be released and forgiven!
