CHAPTER 10 WHAT IS THE GREATEST WEAPON SATAN USES AGAINST A BELIEVER?
T HERE IS A secret that the adversary hopes you never find out —the greatest single weapon he uses against a believer. To discover this weapon, we go back in time to the trial of Christ and His conversation with His disciple Peter. Christ chose twelve disciples, and perhaps the boldest and most outspoken was Simon Peter. Christ revealed that Peter would deny Him, and Peter replied, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” (Matt. 26:35). The other disciples never denied Christ—they simply ran for their lives and went into hiding during the crucifixion! Peter, however, attempted to prove his loyalty when he took his sword and sliced off the ear of the high priest’s servant (v. 51). Then he secretly entered the area where Christ’s trial was being held. While warming himself by the night’s fire, he was confronted and told that he was a disciple of the Nazarene. Peter denied this to the point of cursing in order to prove he was not a follower of Christ. Peter feared for his life. After Peter heard the rooster crow, he came to himself, left the area, and wept bitterly (vv. 69–75). Peter was
