engines. Another time the pilot announced engine failure and could not land at a close airport as ice was in the air, and ice can easily bring a plane down. Only her continual prayer brought a miracle in the air, and the plane landed safely. There were several incidents that I will not share that occurred over the next sixmonths—all of them presenting a possible physical threat to the life of the minister. Can Satan take the life of a believer or of members of that believer’s family? There is no doubt that there are seasons in which death assignments are set for a family or a family member. For example, King Saul was the father-in-law to David, who had been anointed to be the future king of Israel. Saul’s jealousy of David opened a door for an “evil spirit” to torment Saul’s mind, and this translated into Saul attempting to kill David on numerous occasions. The old king became obsessed with the idea of removing David, because in Saul’s mind, his sons were assigned to replace him after his death. Only when the evil spirit controlled Saul did Saul throw javelins and attempt to take David’s life. (See 1 Samuel 16:14–19:9.) Notice that Satan used a person—Saul—to plan the assassination strategy against David. Any evil spirit without a human body to dwell in is completely limited to what it can do. After Christ’s birth Herod sent soldiers to slay all children under the age of two, hoping to kill the future king of the Jews (Matt. 2:16). When Christ returned from His forty days of being tempted of the devil, He preached His first message in His hometown of Nazareth. It stirred the hometown folks to the
