exposed to the light before you can receive help. This light begins by first acknowledging that you have a problem, an addiction, and sin nature that is out of control. You will never be free until you admit you are in need. For example, there were two thieves on the cross—one on either side of Christ. One man was rebuking and the other was repenting. The latter admitted he was guilty and asked Christ to remember him (Luke 23:42). When something is dismembered, it is taken apart or torn apart. In a sense, to be remembered could imply to put something together. By confessing he needed redemption through Christ, the thief was asking to be put back together again—made whole—even in his death! Darkness cannot hide in the light. You will be relieved when you finally say, “I have a bondage, and I need God’s help.” The noose is loosed, the chain is weakened, and the prison door is shaking. Then there is the moment of confessing your sin and asking the blood of Christ to cleanse you (Eph. 1:7). The removal of sin purges the conscience and through faith releases guilt and condemnation (Rom. 8:1). Following this action, we are then to, “Lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us” (Heb. 12:1), which includes also separating from individuals and people who are breeders of disobedience, holders of chains, and bondage makers.
