called the “power of darkness” (Col. 1:13). There are demonic entities that are identified as “the rulers of the darkness of this age” (Eph. 6:12). Those who work in cooperation with evil are called the “works of darkness” (Rom. 13:12). The night is the time when sinners and sin are released at a greater measure than the day, because “men loved darkness rather than light” (John 3:19). On the other hand, light is linked to God and His kingdom. Beginning with Creation, a supernatural light first appeared in the darkness, even before the sun, moon, and stars were created (Gen. 1:3, 16). Christ was present in the beginning with God and was that first light of creation in Genesis 1:3. John spoke of this light when he wrote, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:5). The Greek word for “comprehend” is katalambano , which is from two words— kata , meaning “a dominating force,” and lambano, meaning “to grab hold of or to seize control of.” Combined, these two words mean, “to grab hold of something and to suppress it.” The enemy would attempt to seize the light and suppress it from entering your mind and spirit, but when any light shines in any dark place, the light always, and I do mean always, overpowers the darkness, and the darkness cannot control the light.
