sins. However, they believe that from Elul 1 to Tishri 10, forgiveness is more readily acceptable since God once pardoned the entire nation of Israel all at once in Moses’s time. Therefore Elul is considered a month of heavenly compassion. The Need for Seasons of Repentance The central theme of redemption is God’s forgiveness being released through His mercy toward the repentant sinner. Christians should be fully aware of the emphasis the New Testament places upon forgiving others of their trespasses and their sins toward us. The Torah reveals that abundant blessings are released upon those who have been forgiven of their sins and who are willing to choose a righteous lifestyle by following the spiritual and moral Torah Code. Blessings were promised on their children, their crops, and their livestock, and the defeat of their enemies was assured (Deut. 28:1–14). The New Testament is clear that God’s blessings for the individual believer are conditional upon our willingness to follow the new covenant teaching and be willing to forgive others as Christ forgave us (Matt. 6:12–15). Our blessings include forgiveness of sins, answered prayer, financial increase, and the spiritual impartation of righteousness, peace, and joy (Rom. 14:17). Christ said it this way: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
