Perry’s Insight #5—Your gifts can create what you need. God uses natural and spiritual gifts in your life to bless others, including your family. Both Joseph and Daniel could interpret strange prophetic dreams, and their unique gifts brought them before kings. David had a natural ability to use a slingshot, and his gift led him to battle, slaying Goliath and making David an instant national hero. Each of us has a unique gift, or gifts, that can be released to bless us and be a blessing to others. At one time, my grandfather wrote or had copyrights on hundreds of songs! Noted country gospel singer Ricky Van Shelton recorded one of his songs. I never realized I carried the DNA of songwriting until a friend helped pull it out of me . She is a fabulous songwriter, and as we teamed up, I could create the words, and she provided the melody. The first song we ever wrote was “Close to the Cross, but Far From the Blood.” Years after we wrote it, it was recorded by the McKameys, a nationally recognized gospel group. During a Sunday service in Tampa, Florida, in the early 1990s, I was suddenly inspired with a chorus, “Let the veil down; let the praise go up.” Later, Keith Dudley added verses to the chorus, and this inspiring song was recorded by Judy Jacobs and has been heard around the world. Soon, noted gospel singers began requesting to hear and record our songs. Such remarkable singers as Karen Wheaton, John Starnes, Mike Purkey, Gold City Quartet, and numerous others have recorded our songs.
