Chapter 3
MEMORIES Rebecca put another log on the fire which was crackling merrily on the hearth. Flames of blue and green and orange licked over the fresh log as she carefully pulled the screen across the fireplace. "There, that should do it for awhile," she said as she settled down on the couch next to Joyce, (not her real name) The house was quiet as everyone else had gone to bed. The cold winter wind whipped around the house outside, and the shadows from the flames danced warmly in the room. Everything was cozy and peaceful as Joyce and Rebecca set tled down with mugs of coffee for a quiet talk. They had much to share. But, they had no idea just how soon their peace would be shattered by the rapidly approaching events of the night. Joyce is a young woman in her mid-thirties who had been involved in witchcraft for 12 years. She rose through the ranks of WICCA, becoming a high priestess, and, eventual ly, a "courier" between WICCA and a major network of covens. She had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior about six months before meeting Rebecca, who helped her kick out all of her demons. Now, about a month after her deliverance, Joyce had come to visit Rebecca and Elaine. (Joyce has, at the time of this writing, been out of the craft for a little more than two years.) "Rebecca, you will never know what an impact the cover of your first book had on me," Joyce commented. "I received Christ, and was then nearly killed by the demons beating me
