The choice is ours. Will we resist our Master and thus be come a vessel of dishonor? If we harden our hearts and resist the Holy Spirit as he convicts us that we need to cleanse ourselves, then we most surely end up a vessel of dishonor. Purging ourselves, is what this chapter is all about. We MUST purge OURSELVES. The responsibility is on US. Over and over again in scripture we are exhorted to cleanse ourselves.
"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." II Corinthians 7:1 "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my ab sence, work out your own salvation with fear and trem bling." Philippians 2:12
Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross, but it is OUR responsibility to take up the power and authority available to us in the name of Jesus to cleanse our temples, that is, us.
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are." I Corinthians 3:16-17
Because the Holy Spirit dwells in those of us who have made Jesus Christ our Lord and Master and Savior, we must be careful to keep ourselves pure. That not only means that we
