that, in fact, allows us the opportunity to grow into a complete and mature Christian (James 1:2-4). Yet, many feel that when they are in the midst of adversity, it is simply an attempt to hinder them or that somehow God is not doing His job. Akin to this "untouchable" concept is the idea that believers should be wealthy, not because they work for it or practice biblical principles, but just because! While God wants us to prosper (3 John 1:2), He will not bless those who conform to unwise, unethical and unscriptural principles. Wealth in the hands of those who are immature can have disastrous consequences, namely that they are seduced into thinking that the presence of wealth constitutes approval of their lifestyle. Furthermore, people with wealth typically want more wealth, and human nature is such that we begin focusing on the blessings rather than on the One who provides the blessings. Sooner or later, wealth in the hands of those immature and unprepared for the tests that will surely follow are overcome with cares and heavy burdens. Jesus said, And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this fife, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth (Luke 21:34, 35).
