 Bin Laden was willing to wage war against the world's greatest superpower in the name of Islam.  Bin Laden was able to attack the West and bring fear into the hearts of an entire nation that he considers to be a tool of Satan.  Bin Laden was able to hide in deep caves, both in the time of the Soviet invasion and during the war in Afghanistan, and he attacked a Western superpower from a cave.  Bin Laden was attempting to bring "pure" Islamic justice to Afghanistan.  He was standing against the "corrupt" royal families of Saudi Arabia, while demanding the removal of Jews from Palestinian land. This combination struck a cord in the hearts of many Muslims. American and British television seldom reports these things, but Arabic television aired by satellite throughout the world constantly promotes hatred toward Israel and the Jews. It regularly blasts the West for being a friend of the Jews. In Kenya, East Africa, three major Islamic networks air their propaganda throughout the city and the nation. All networks propagate hatred toward Israel and the Jews. Some are even antagonistic toward the West. Because of bin Laden's unknown whereabouts for months, some Muslims believed he would re-emerge at an appointed time and unite a massive following that would shake the West.
