grandparents that are disgraceful. Parents find their little children coming back home cursing or telling foul stories, and they wonder where they are hearing them. They‘re ge t ting them from Grandpa and Grandma! Your children‘s children should get the Word from you. When your children send their kids to you, those kids should go back home knowing more about God. God is very concerned that parents teach their children. He isn‘t saying here to send your c hildren to church, Sunday school, or vacation Bible club. He‘s saying to teach them yourself. These other things are good, but if they‘re not rei n forced in the home, children can get the impression their parents don‘t think the Bible is important. Parents don‘t realize the negative impact this attitude can have on their families. After giving God‘s commands to the people, Moses said, These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. (Deut. 6:6 – 9) First of all, God says, “Impress [My commandments] on your chil dren.” Then He tells how to do it. What do your children hear in your house? What do they hear when you sit down to eat? Some scandal reported in the newspaper? The latest movie? What do you discuss? Do you talk about the goodness of the Lord? When you sit around your house during your leisure time, what do you do? Do you spend time teaching your children the Word? Do you have family devotions? 1. “Talk about Them When You Sit at Home.”
