We read: And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword, and died with him. —1 SAMUEL 31:5 FALLING UPON YOUR OWN SWORD If there is one ultimate strategy of the enemy as it relates to all ministers in any fivefold ministry office (Eph. 4:11), it is to see the spiritual leader fall upon his own sword. The phrase “to fall upon your own sword” means that although you tell others what to do and how to live, you do not perform these duties in your own life. This is illustrated when ministers who have warned others of traps fall into these same traps themselves, or who, after preaching the dos and the don’ts of a Christian walk to others, do the don’t they preached to others not to do. Many years I ago I can recall a noted television minister with a well-known global ministry. In some countries in South America American visitors observed that when this minister’s programwas broadcast, restaurants and sports bars would switch channels from sports games to this minister’s preaching.
