In the time of the apostles the availability of certain sins was not as accessible as it is today. The first-century population had no computers and instant Internet, no phones that can view videos and so forth. However, as recorded in Acts, once believers entered the new covenant, if they had in their possession any items that were idols or used in the occult, these items were collected and burned. We read that during a great revival in the city of Ephesus: Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver. —ACTS 19:19 If there are idols, occult books or games, pornography, illegal drugs, or other abusive substances in your possession, they must be removed from your premises, as these things are like dung that attracts flies. These feed the mind, body, and spirit of a person the wrong “food,” and mental images and the wrong food will clog the arteries to the heart and in the brain— both natural food (too much fat) and the wrong spiritual food (too much junk). Soon your heart weakens and your mind ceases to reason properly and resist evil. Fainting in your spirit soon follows, and you find yourself in a life-and-death struggle.
