3. The third and most important point in this study is that spirits dwelling in a particular city or region are familiar with that region and desire to remain in the comfort zone of their familiarity.

It must be made clear here that the subject of inheriting your ancestors’ spirits has nothing to do with what is called ancestral spirit worship among some Asian religions. There are major world religions that believe a human has at least two parts (a physical body and spirit body). The human spirit is freed at death and the body returns to the earth. This is actually a biblical concept, as man came from dust and shall return to dust, and to be absent from the body is to be present (your spirit present) with the Lord (Gen. 3:19; 2 Cor. 5:6). However, in some Asian countries the living consider these departed human spirits as roaming and hovering around their families endlessly. In some cultures chairs are set out during special meals for the ancestor spirit . In some European cultures, however, the spirits of a departed person (called ghosts ) are considered dangerous, and it is believed they can retaliate against the living. Among some Native American Indians shamans use spirit guides, which they teach are the spirits of the dead, to make contact with the living. In what is called the New Age movement, many New Age gurus and other mediums attempt to channel the spirits of the dead in order to gain secret information.
