bind (put in bonds) enemies and execute the judgments and will of God on the earth. Praise can become a weapon of war! In 2 Chronicles 20 Scripture reveals the power of singing and worship to defeat Israel’s enemies. King Jehoshaphat appointed singers and worshippers to stand upon the mountains, singing and praising God. Suddenly God set ambushes against the enemy, defeating them through the weapon of singing and praise! Thus, the second weapon that is parallel to the Roman javelin is the praise that is shot up into heaven and brings in return the glory of the Lord in the midst of your conflict. When Paul and Silas were beaten and imprisoned, and their feet placed in wooden stocks, at midnight they began singing and praising God with such volume that the other prisoners heard them. Suddenly the jailhouse began to rock, the result of God striking the prison with an earthquake, cracking the rock foundation and sending the iron prison doors flying off their hinges (Acts 16:22–26). This story illustrates how praise can rattle your cage , meaning that worship can bring God’s delivering power to where you are and begin melting the bondages (chains) that have you bound. Not only did Paul and Silas benefit from this special midnight praise and worship event, but also, “ . . . immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed” (v. 26). When you worship and your words invite God into your situation, then divine energy fills the atmosphere and can also impact those around you. A bound person cannot free a bound person; only a free man can deliver a bound man! Worship invites the Holy Spirit, and “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Cor. 3:17).
