Since the heart can be desperately wicked (Jer. 17:9), how can we experience a spiritual heart transplant, removing deception and imparting righteousness? Through the experience of being “born again” (John 3:3, 7) God creates in a person a right heart and a clean spirit. Ezekiel described God’s power to transform a person when he wrote: I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. —EZEKIEL 36:26–27 In these last days there will be strategic warfare planned against the minds and the hearts of all believers. The helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, and the shield of faith will prevent the arrows, missiles, and other objects thrown our way from penetrating into our mind, heart, and spirit. When opposition, hindrances, and other challenges arise, it is easy to blame the devil for creating the havoc. However, much of our difficulty is the Jacob nature that must be wrestled out of us until we prevail with God and mature from infant knowledge to a mature and strong believer. It has often been said, “Just trust your heart.” However, Jeremiah 17:9 says:
