bondage that torments the person whose thoughts are filled with filth. The spirit of a person can be either spiritual through the amount of Word it receives, or it can starve and become weak to the point of spiritual death. In what is called “the Lord’s Prayer,” the entire prayer is centered on growing in the Spirit and victory over temptation and evil (Matt. 6:9–13). In the prayer Christ prayed, “Give us this day our daily bread” (v. 11). This is commonly believed to be a prayer for provision, such as food. However, since bread is a metaphor for the Word of God (and for Christ Himself), including healing (Matt. 15:29–31), and Christ said He was the “living bread which came down from heaven” (John 6:51), the daily bread can also be a reference to a word from God each day that directs and sustains us. Just as Israel needed bread from heaven, called manna , during their forty years in the wilderness, we need a fresh inspiration and Word to feed our soul and spirit with every day. THE DIVIDED MIND On Mount Carmel Elijah asked the people, “How long will you halt between two opinions?” The Hebrew word for “halt” here means “to skip over, hesitate, or to limp.” Two opposing opinions in one heart will cause hesitation and bring a limp into your life.
