The enemy, however, has his own arsenal of weapons to counter the weapons of God. In King David’s time there were five giants dwelling in Israel, with Goliath being the most noted (1 Sam. 17; 2 Sam. 21:15–21). After slaying Goliath, David took Goliath’s sword, cut the giant’s head off, and later took the sword as a spoil of his war victory (1 Sam. 21:9). Many years later David fought a giant who had created a “new sword.” We read: Then Ishbi-Benob, who was one of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose bronze spear was three hundred shekels, who was bearing a new sword, thought he could kill David. —2 SAMUEL 21:16 If you have gained a major spiritual victory over the world, flesh, or the devil, your adversary refuses to be idle and allow you to a long-term victory parade. He will return to his war room and design a new sword and wait for the appropriate time to challenge you in another battle.
