MAD AT GOD Events on earth that cause destruction and death are often blamed on God for either causing them or for not preventing them. Men seem to forget that while God did create the earth and all living things, He originally gave man “dominion” over the creation (Gen. 1:26–27). Man’s dominion includes control over the atmosphere, the land, sea, and the animal kingdom. It is obvious that man has done a terrible job in being the steward of the planet and caring for his earthly inheritance, handed to man in the Garden of Eden! Multitudes starve, and blood fills the streets when evil men rise up as dictators, bringing a spirit of death and destruction with them. One example of God being blamed for not preventing a tragedy was the Holocaust. For those unfamiliar with the event, Adolf Hitler arrested millions of Jews throughout Europe, sending them to death camps and gas chambers and eliminating an estimated sixmillion Jews—including one and a half million children who also perished in the most terrible and violent manner. When the world saw the pictures, they were horrified and unable to imagine how a loving God could permit an ethnic group He identifies as His “chosen people” to experience such horrific experiences. Among those who survived the Holocaust and eventually immigrated to Israel or moved to other parts of Europe are those who became atheists and agnostics, as they could not
