Daniel. A minister they knew drove by, and instead of helping them, he beeped his horn and went on his way. Charles believed that God was certainly able to heal his son, and often he and others prayed for this to occur. Despite the prayers, Daniel’s condition worsened, and eventually his suffering became so great that his wife told her husband that she didn’t want to see the lad suffer any more and asked that he pray that the Lord would come and take their son to heaven to be with Him. After prayer, at age nine, Daniel slipped into eternity, where his soul and spirit met the Savior and he was at rest with the Lord. Immediately after Daniel’s departure, Charles prayed a prayer, which, once I was told the words, I have never forgotten. He thanked the Lord for giving him Daniel and noted to God that he did not understand why Daniel was not healed, but he told God: “ I will not go to hell over a mystery! ” He was saying that he did not understand the ways of God, the reason why his prayer was unanswered, and why his son passed at age nine. However, he refused to lose his faith, trust, and confidence in the Lord, despite the fact he was in sorrow and grief losing his son. The story does not end there. After the death of Daniel, Charles reapplied for a position on the mission field and was accepted. During his long and illustrious ministry he and his wife had two children born on the field.
