THE CHARLES GREENAWAY STORY One of the most remarkable stories I have ever heard concerning how God can take a terrible situation and turn it around is the story of Charles Greenaway. Charles Greenaway was an ordained minister in the Assemblies of God in the 1930s in Elba, Alabama. Deep within he had a desire to travel to the mission fields and serve as a missionary. There was one thing preventing this burden for mission from being fulfilled—his son, Daniel. You see, Daniel was a beautiful child, but he had contacted leukemia. The Assembly of God missions could not risk a minister living overseas in a foreign nation with such a sick child, as there would be few if any treatments and the suffering fellow would consume the time of his father and mother. The Greenaways submitted to the decision and remained in America, where Charles continued to pastor while his son received treatment for the leukemia. In his older years Charles told a missionary friend of mine that on one occasion their car had broken down and there were four old, bald-treaded tires on the vehicle.
