early church were men who themselves needed a physical healing manifestation. We read where Paul wrote that Epaphroditus “was sick almost unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow” (Phil. 2:27). Paul said of another of his companions in ministry, “Trophimus I have left in Miletus sick” (2 Tim. 4:20). Even young Timothy was agonizing with stomach problems; Paul said Timothy had “infirmities” (1 Tim. 5:23). The Greek word for “infirmities” is astheneia and refers to a weakness from a sickness or some form of a physical sickness. The fact is that eventually all men will die, usually through three common methods: old age, sickness, or an accident. Because we live on a planet that is presently under a sin curse, the human body is subject to bacteria, parasites, flus, and at times diseases. The weakening of the body can be a source for certain sickness within the body, as the immune system is compromised with time and age. A believer passing with a sickness is no indication of any form of sin or disobedience in his or her life, as some may teach. It is a law of life that says, “It is appointed for men to die once” (Heb. 9:27). In my father’s situation, he had diabetes and, in reality, did not take care of himself as he should. To prevent offending someone in the mountains of Kentucky or West Virginia, he would eat the high-starch and high-carb foods and even sweets. When a piece of cake or pie found its way on his plate, he ate what was set before him , in respect for the cook. Only in the latter years did he change his diet, but the damage was already done to the internal organs. At times you will have a very godly person who believes in
