I WANT TO TELL YOU ABOUT MY FATHER , F RED S TONE , A MAN OF great faith and dedication to Christ, who ministered for more than sixty-one years before his death in March of 2011. My first memories of Dad are when he pastored a small church in the rural community of Big Stone Gap, Virginia. From the simple age of five to my mature age of fifty-one, in my eyes Dad always seemed strong, in charge, confident of God’s ability, and keenly sensitive to knowing God’s will for himself and others. In his last ten years of life he traveled and ministered in churches. Observers and partners of his ministry often spoke of Dad’s strong compassion for the sick and afflicted. Spending hours a day in prayer, he ministered at night in churches or conventions. It was common to see him in front of a large line of people seeking prayer, often accompanied by outbursts of sudden praise to God for an instant healing of some form.
