knew he would always bear some type of a limp in the eyes of the people. 2. David also recognized that it was in the Lord’s power to restore his joy and to allow the bones to rejoice again. The Hebrew word for “rejoice” is giyl , which comes from a root word meaning, “to spin around under the influence of a violent emotion.” It doesn’t just mean to be happy, to clap your hands, or to smile and say, “Praise the Lord.” It alludes to dancing and rejoicing in a very emotional manner. At the time of David’s failure, he could have presented numerous requests to the Lord. He could have requested, “Please restore my reputation as king,” or, “Please restore my integrity in the eyes of the people.” Had David been an American politician, he could have hired a Hollywood agency to make his sin appear to be a “right-wing conspiracy” or place the blame on his Secret Service agents for allowing this woman in the palace. He could have taken polls to determine how to manipulate the story for best damage control. Within a year the Washington spin doctors could have made Bathsheba look like a stalker and the king an innocent victim of a wild woman’s fantasy. David, however, didn’t play games with God’s mercy. He knew he had sinned and knew everyone else knew. He simply looked up and asked God that his joy be restored (Ps. 51:12). He wanted to take God dancing again! He missed those intimate moments he and his heavenly Father had enjoyed,
