on their garments. There was a shield of favor protecting each of these four individuals from the destructive plans of men. God’s purpose for them was greater than the enemies’ plan against them. Favor became a fireproof shield and a lion repellent for Daniel and his companions in Babylon. Back in the late 1980s, prior to one of our main Israel tours, there were uprisings in parts of the West Bank and Gaza among the Palestinian Arabs against the Jews—the intifada . At that time Palestinian youths would burn tires in the streets and throw rocks at buses—possibly tour buses that may be passing through some of their villages. On this occasion we were in Jerusalem. Located in east Jerusalem is the Kidron Valley, the ruins of the city of David, the Gihon Springs, Hezekiah’s tunnel, and Silwan—an older Arab community with thousands of children and youth living in the houses and apartments on the hillsides. Because of the intifada the Arab schools were closed. I had hoped to take my large tour group through the Kidron Valley, as this region is a very exciting and interesting part of Jerusalem’s early biblical history. My Jewish guides suggested that we avoid this area and cancel the walking tour to prevent any rock-throwing kid from reenacting the biblical story of David and Goliath! When one of my Arab friends heard we were canceling the tour of the area, he said, “Brother, you have God with you, and God’s favor. Why would you be fearful? This is God’s land, and He wants you to see it.” He demanded I take the tour and said, “Let me help you, and don’t worry.” I had no clue what he meant by that statement, but he said he knew someone who would take care of us.
