state are so used to the mini-quakes, they don’t even think about them when the floor of the house is moving! However, according to geological experts, the “Big One” is coming, meaning a large magnitude quake that is linked to the major San Andres fault line running north and south in the Golden State. On the East Coast we can see warnings about the larger hurricanes and tornadoes prior to when they strike, but a major quake comes without warnings. If you are unprepared when the unexpected comes, you may be in the street without water, food, and additional clothing. In our spiritual struggles we prepare for what we know but get knocked off guard with what we can’t see coming. We Christians often walk into our local churches with freshly polished armor as though we are in a victory parade and have overcome all spirits, works of the flesh, and spiritual opposition. However, when the sheep depart the fold and are out rubbing shoulders with wolves, at times we hide who we are and compromise while sitting in a restaurant discussing business over the latest alcoholic drinks. Like King Saul, instead of standing against the Goliaths, we hide our armor safely in our tents to prevent anyone from knowing what we are. It is during those unguarded moments that the most damage can be done. Years ago a close friend and I joined together and traveled to Bulgaria shortly after Communism fell. The new freedoms opened doors for the gospel, but they also opened doors for illegal drugs and prostitution. We learned that prostitution ran rampant, and we both stuck together at all times when walking from our rooms to eat or meet the local ministers in the lobby.
