O NCE A R OMAN SOLDIER ENGAGED IN FACE-TO-FACE combat with arrows flying, spears gashing, and swords slashing, the leather straps, metal strips, and other parts of his armor could become dented and battered. After intense conflict his armor needed repairing. We have been provided a shield of faith. The four Gospels describe different levels of faith: • No faith (Mark 4:40)
• Little faith (Matt. 8:26) • Great faith (Matt. 15:28) • Such great faith (Luke 7:9)
In Acts the writer Luke spoke of men like Stephen who were “full of faith” (Acts 6:5, 8). Faith is planted and grows within our hearts. It is obvious, however, that not everyone’s faith
