Chapter 6 WHEN BELIEVERS BEGIN FAINTING

I N L UKE 18 C HRIST GAVE A PARABLE OF A WOMAN WHO WENT to an unjust judge, begging him to avenge her of her adversary. The judge consistently ignored her, but realizing that she would never let him rest as she did not cease to petition him, he gave her the request of her heart. Emphasizing the persistence of the woman, we read these words, “Men always ought to pray and not lose heart” (Luke 18:1). The King James Version says, “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” The general meaning of fainting, in a spiritual sense, means to become fainthearted, lose heart, or feel a sense of despair. The idea of becoming faint means, “to relaxor to loosen up or to lose altogether.” 1 The ancient idea here is to loosen the string on a bow. Once the string is loosened, you may still have a bow handle but no strength in the bow to shoot arrows. It can also hold the idea of being small souled , meaning weak in your mind.
