to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. —LUKE 4:18, KJV Christ came to bring deliverance to the “captives.” The Greek word used in this passage means, “someone taken as a prisoner of war by the point of a spear.” These prisoners in Satan’s kingdom are captive to their own carnal desires, which are birthing seeds of destruction. Christ also heals the brokenhearted. The Greek word for “brokenhearted” is suntribo ; it means, “to utterly crush, to shatter, and break in pieces.” The analogy is of a beautiful clay vessel that is dropped on the floor and has shattered into many pieces. Broken relationships and betrayals lead to inner feelings of sorrow, grief, and pain. Christ sets at liberty those who are bruised , those who are crushed. The Spirit of the Lord releases a special anointing to minister to the captives, brokenhearted, and bruised . This fact should be a source of encouragement to those who feel rejected, betrayed, and alone. The same Christ who delivered the man of Gadera from his demonic strongholds will deliver anyone who will fall down and begin to worship Him!
