they neglect their children, which is something contrary to the inbred nature of a mother. Over the years I have spoken with literally hundreds of men and women who battled addictions and now are free through the power of God. When asking them why they turned to drugs and alcohol, about nine out of ten gave me the same answer. They replied, “I did it to dull the pain and the hurts I was feeling in my life.” After hearing this response over and over for many years, I then saw another aspect of Satan’s strategy. By keeping a person high or drunk, the enemy is also dulling them to the point where they cannot feel the joy and peace that come from the presence of God. The presence of God is not emotions, but there is an emotional response when a person feels the power of God, especially for the first time. The deader you are on the inside, the less likely you are to sense the force of spiritual conviction of sin from the Holy Spirit and even less likely to be able to feel the peace and joy that emit from the Holy Spirit’s presence. You will eventually become lulled to sleep and dulled to death. Substance abuse is a false “high” leading to a deadly low. Thousands of individuals of all ages have been released from suicidal thoughts and self-abuse after hearing a “testimony” of how Christ delivered others from similar bondages. A believer has a great power resource that can construct a shield of faith in a person whose trust was burned by fiery arrows of bondages when someone now freed from the same prison house of death shares their personal testimony. A testimony gives evidence that God is willing and able to deliver
