From the above it is easy to see the prophet’s mantle as more than just a cloak or covering. Symbolically, it communicates to the spirit world everything the prophet is and has as a representative of God’s kingdom and signifies that he is God’s messenger. Thus, the prophet’s mantle as a work resource is a power tool, a protective garb, an insignia of authority, and an emblem of divine license. It is a guard against the elements, a stylized uniform, and a statement of service. Its saturation with the Lord’s anointing over time, as with Elijah’s mantle that Elisha inherited, integrates functional portions of His omniscience, omnipotence, wisdom, counsel, and might. Isaiah 11:1–5 itemizes the qualities and powers inherent in the prophet’s mantle, which is a figure of the anointing. What a spiritual mantle’s presence upon a person identifies is tantamount to the officer’s badge and its radiance. Its density speaks to the wearer’s degree of authority and inherent power. I once ministered to a young woman I had just met. As I began to pray for her to give her the word of the Lord, suddenly, right before my eyes, there appeared a huge, gold, badge-shaped shield. It covered her whole chest from shoulder to shoulder and from her neck way past her midsection. Seeing it told me that every vital area of her life was doubly protected by God. I did not know immediately what she did for a living, but the badge, more like a shield, indicated she was a woman of present or future power in God. It was thick, and it said, in essence, “guarded by God.” It had taken hits because there were many dents in it, but oddly they were distributed evenly and looked more like engravings than
