foretoken that reasserts itself when the prophecy comes to pass to remind the hearer that it was what the Lord had in mind when He sent His prophet with the word. One example of signature prophecy is the occurrence of an event that seems unrelated to anything in the person’s life or experience triggered by and related to a prophecy. Prophetic signature is totally consistent with the Old Testament prophet’s words that brought us to the New. Isaiah 7:14 orients us to the reality that prophetic signs confirm the Lord’s words as in the coming crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The birth of the church and the redemption of the Gentiles are other examples. Propheteia includes the Creator’s appropriation of the prophet’s spirit, the source of the messenger’s predictive ability, and revelatory sight. It contemporaneously pertains to didactic prophetics, where teaching permeates the prophet’s discourse to combine the wisdom of the now in Christ with the insightful predictions of ancient prophets to reveal Him. Predictive and didactic prophecy join instruction to unfold the existence, purposes, and work of His church on earth. Didactic prophetic predictions foretell how and where the church, its ministers, and its operations, empowered by the Holy Spirit, are to manifest their reach and demonstrate the powers of the Living God as Christ’s representative. Luke 24:44–49 is an example, as is Matthew 10’s record of the training and commissioning of the apostles, seen also in Luke 10, where the seventy were likewise dispatched. Prophetic Teaching and Preaching Aside from bringing the word of the Lord, one of the most intriguing things about prophetic ministry is its distinct style of sermonic delivery. According to Romans 12, which mentions the gift of prophecy, revelatory and predictive influences are typical of the mantle. The prophet’s style of sermonizing incorporates several spiritual and supernatural features that help stimulate hearers’ understanding. With their sometimes humorous and pragmatic way of speaking, prophets frequently integrate symbolism, parables, and similitudes in their messages to instruct and invigorate their audiences. The prophet’s spirit, combined with its inherent actuating force, amplifies this fundamental gift. The capability enables the prophet to rotate perceptively between teaching and prophesying as the tenor and mix of the audience requires.
