The Shamar Prophet
4 New Testament Prophets 4
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. Wherefore he saith, Awake (egeiro) thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise (sophos), redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; (Eph. 5:13-18) The Greek word for "wise", sophos, used in the passage relates to the watchman. The Greek word for "awake", egeiro, is associated with the watch of the Lord, which is related to the intercessor. The lexical aid to the New Testament in the Hebrew Greek Study Bible says: "Sophos derived probably from the Hebrew sophim, signifying watchman. The Greeks apparently derived their Sophia from this sophim. In the O.T. these watchmen used to ascend to the mountains so that they might see all around (Num. 23:14), but in the absence of mountains, The Greeks just observed the course and motions of the heavens and called themselves sophoi. Therefore, in its basic meaning sophos is the one who knows how to regulate his course in view of movements of the heavens or of God". (Martha Lucia and Dana Millar)
