a point of them not having a clear sense of self, rendering members too weak to function in an individualistic, differentiated way. Generally speaking, this condition leads a person to become psychologically influenced, controlled by, mutually reliant upon, or needing another person to fulfill their own needs or to complete them as a person. According to Melody Beattie in her book Codependent No More , enmeshment “causes people to become emotionally and psychologically consumed in a dysfunctional relationship in which they allow someone else’s thoughts, opinions, emotions, and behavior to control them.” 3 (See 1 Kings 11:1–5.) E ntanglements When I think of the word entangle , I think of someone caught in a web that stagnates growth, progress, or development and keeps a person stuck in circumstances they really want to be delivered from. Entanglements can be social, relational, familial, organizational, spiritual, psychological, or finan cial in nature. Once God delivers you from anything, be careful because the devil will seek to cause you to fall into the same or similar entanglements again. (See Exodus 14:3; 2 Peter 2:20.) E thnicities Ethnicity relates to a particular group of people who share a common and distinctive race or linguistic, religious, or cultural heritage. Satan uses this weapon effectively to keep believers separated. (See John 4:7–9, 19–20.) E ventualities An eventuality is a possibility of something occurring, or the consequence of an action. Eventualities operate by a law called the law of cause and effect. (See Hosea 8:7.) Satan often blinds your mind and deceives you into believing, denying, or ignoring that this principle will be suspended based on your desire or ignorance (Gal. 6:7). A particular outcome may not come to pass imme diately after an act that defies biblical principles, but eventually every seed sown will have its harvest. For instance, after a long period of alcoholism, a person gives their heart to the Lord only to discover, months later, that they have sclerosis of the liver.
