D isobedience Disobedience is the disposition that defies and resists authority, and the refusal or failure to obey a mandate, directive, or command. It is rebellion against known authority. According to 1 Samuel 15:23, God considers disobe dience a form of witchcraft. The thought of disobedience being associated with witchcraft is chilling to me, especially as it relates to believers who sincerely love the Lord and want to serve Him. First Peter 2:13–15 encour ages you to “submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.” (See 1 Samuel 15:1–3, 13–24.) D ivination Divination, a word used interchangeably with witchcraft, is characterized by occult activities, deception, control, and fear. (See Exodus 22:18; Deuter onomy 18:10; Jeremiah 27:9.) Individuals utilize satanic and diabolical agents, tactics, and strategies for the purposes of foretelling events and controlling people, animals, environments, things, and situations. Their tactics involve: ill-spoken words, ill wishes, enchantments, spells, hexes, curses, witchcraft prayers, idle words spoken contrary to God’s original plans and purposes, talisman, astrology, palmistry, crystal gazing, fortune-telling, false prophecy, soothsaying, and doctrines of devils. (For a more comprehensive look at the spirit of divination, please refer to chapter 9.) D ivorce According to 1 Corinthians 13, love is perfect. Unfortunately, we live in a less than-perfect world with less-than-perfect people who have grand weddings but not so grand experiences within the institution of marriage. Communica tion suffers, a partner cheats, relationships crumble, lovers leave, or midlife happens. Divorce for some seemingly becomes the only solution for their disappointment.
