S pirit of A ffliction Afflictions are the pathological conditions of the body, soul, or spirit. This word comes from the Hebrew word ra , which literally translated means “to break into pieces or to devour.” It connotes a spirit that is assigned to cause distress, disease, and to ultimately destroy. The spirit of affliction works with all major maladies and calamities. Psalm 34:19 states, “Many are the afflic tions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.”
