S pirit of A ddiction An addiction is a complex illness with physical and psychological symptoms and wide-scale social ramifications. It affects not only the person but also his family, friends, and social environment. The person afflicted by this spirit lacks control over his activities and behaviors, and instead the activi ties and behaviors have taken control over him. In essence, an addiction is any progressive abuse of something that is difficult or impossible to control. In our natural world, the way to recovery is long and painful, and there is always the danger of relapsing. However, with God all things are possible. Addictions can be categorized by the following:

Substance: alcohol, heroin, tobacco, solvents, cocaine, cannabis, caffeine, methadone, benzodiazepines, hallucino gens, amphetamines, ecstasy, painkillers, barbiturates, and steroids Social: exercise, sex, sexual perversion, pornography, eating (anorexia, bulimia, overeating, binge eating, emotional eating), techno (computer games, cyber sex, Internet), work, gambling, and oniomania (an abnormal impulse for buying things) 1
