The Meal That Heals
Biblical Methods Of Healing
believers in a local church. Through the study of Dr. John Miller, I learned two important facts: 1. Biblically, there is no set time that a person should receive Communion. Jesus said, “As oft as you do this, do it in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:24-25). 2. There is no Scripture to indicate that it must be administered only by a licensed or ordained minister. In the first few centuries, some in the church indicated that a person should partake of the Lord’s Supper three times a year: at Easter (Passover), Pentecost, and the Lord’s Nativity (Christmas). It was written, “We decree that on each Lord’s day, the oblation of the altar should be made by men and women in bread and wine, in order that by means of these sacrifices they may be released from the burden of their sins.” (Decrees of Fabian, Volume VIII, pages 640-641). The tradition of the Roman Catholic Church is to serve Communion in a weekly Mass, while Protestant churches vary. Yet, the Scripture does not tell us to do it weekly, monthly, or yearly, but “as oft as you do” (1 Corinthians 11:24-25). Dr. Miller shared with me the concept of receiving Communion every day. This was a new idea that I needed to weigh out by the Word of God. Today, I am convinced that daily Communion is an avenue to healing through the Covenant relationship between you and Christ.
